Another week and another two pounds down!  The percentage is 7.52 and the goal is 25%, more than a fourth of the way.

Holy crap!  Why didn’t I take into account that I’d never used an elliptical machine in my life!  It’s like some sort of medieval torture device.  The first day I used it, for a solid minute thirty, my upper thighs were on fire and my hips felt as if they were made of Jello.  The kind of Jello you see at Christmas from your Aunt when she used too much water and old bananas so the whole thing is watery and gross but you smile through it and put extra Cool Whip on it and eat it anyway.  That went a little too far, sorry.  Anyway the second day I was up to two minutes before the burn was too much and by the fifth time I am up to four and a half minutes.  I’m going to keep at it, the goal is at least thirty minutes of cardio four or five times a week.  I was able to ride the stationary bike for over ten minutes yesterday, so maybe the combination will break me through to the other side.

Nothing too exciting in the food category this week.  I’m trying to keep it simple.  So many weird diet foods out there made with brown rice, almond flour or more other strange but technically not “illegal” food stuff.  It’s just easier and cheaper to eat celery and peanut butter (no sugar added) or carrot sticks and hummus.  A few soy chips or crazy tortillas with low carbs and tons of fiber are more delicacies than staples for me.  I have tried to make a few variations of pizza with a tortilla crust, tons of veggies and a sad, small quarter cup of skim milk mozzarella cheese.  It’s actually pretty good, but even with all the lower calorie options it’s still around 500 calories, so a limited option at best.

Today’s diary of a Fat Kid:

I may have mentioned it before, but I was always the oldest kid in my class.  September birthday and all so my extra year of pre-school wasn’t me flunking the first time, but rather my parents holding me back after discussions with school officials made it clear that by doing so I’d be better off.  At this point we can’t undo that decision, but it might explain how I never felt like I was with the right people.  A man of two worlds but comfortable in neither I was friends with kids who were a year ahead of me and I was way bigger than the majority of my classmates.  Really when you’re six years old and everyone else is five the differences are substantial.  I also feel in retrospect that it diminishes the achievements of my youth.  Clearly now we can see that any athletic successes in football or basketball are more attributable to me being a year ahead in growth and coordination, not to mention academic achievement along the lines of brain development, I mean I had a whole extra year to work on colors and the alphabet.  Always being the biggest kid in class, not necessarily the tallest or fattest but generally more taller and fatter than most may have been a more influential image than it would have been if I’d been the youngest kid in my class.

I did really kick butt on the football field though!

This week I’ll continue to work toward a 30 minute cardio program.  The weather is supposed to be nice (thanks global warming) so I’ll get out and walk some to fill in the gaps.  Still I will get back on that effing elliptical every other day until I am comfortably doing entire workouts on it.  I can be stubborn when I feel like it.

Later!
