It's a little bit slow and other than the middle dropping just a small amount it's not all that awesome.

The accidental exercise from Sunday morning messed up my leg for three days and I enjoyed a Hostess bakery's worth of snack cakes last night.

Holding on to the wins in slightly lower weight and maintaining during the most depressing month of the year, but I can do better.

Now I have to get my lazy behind to work.

Year 2 Week 8 Day 1

The mantra is…One Week, One Pound!

Finally a nice weekend in Atlanta. Hitting the sixties and sunny on Saturday and Sunday. I even walked outside one day, not on purpose. I locked myself out of my apartment complex on Saturday night/Sunday morning and had to walk from the office area up to my place to get the clicker for the gate then walk back to the car to drive it up to place apartment so it didn't get towed. That said, it was also 23 degrees at 4AM, so I wasn't walking in that beautiful sunshine or warm breeze, no siree. Still, it counts.

That said, here's this week's number.

Last week was 310.8 and this week was back to 306.6 for a loss of -4.2 lbs.

So the goal for this week is back to just the one pound or a measurement of 305.6 lbs.

There should be some better weather this week so maybe I will intentional walk around the neighborhood.

If I keep this up I am going to have to buy some new clothes for the trip to Minnesota. I might even be able to buy from the "regular" catalog and not the Big and Tall catalog. That would save me like 3-8 dollars per item.

So another week in the books and 2010 is looking to be pretty good. Great, now I jinxed it.

Look at that blood pressure reading! If I can keep that up I might even imagine I am doing okay.

Of course I was looking meditatively at a picture of Sara Jean Underwood while getting that reading, so maybe looking at naked women really does lower one's BP. Think the nurse will go for that?

The chest number is higher which is odd, maybe I'm lactating? Still a bigger chest than middle is good in a total appearance kind of way.

More or less flat on the weight, I blame my brother and his guacamole as I got half a bag of chips and dips rolling around in my gut this morning.

Should make for a massive run to the bathroom this afternoon.

Year 2 Week 7 Day 1

The mantra is…blah, blah, blah

I am stuck in the middle of the winter doldrums. Usually that's not a big deal in Atlanta as bad weather comes and goes so fast and we usually hit at least 60 once or twice in a month. This year we are getting snow twice a month and not getting much over fifty degrees since Christmas. I have spent nearly 30 minutes total outside in 2010, including walking to and from my car. So the getting a variety of exercise is right out and the non-stop cramped up inside is not helping my motivations in general.

That said, here's this week's number.

Last week was 315.0 and this week was back to 310.8 for a loss equal to last week's gain or -4.2 lbs.

That doesn't suck but it still leaves me feeling like I am stuck in a rut where I can't break the 310 barrier in any consistent basis. Now I have been over three hundred pounds for more than ten years and maybe I have a little too much invested in my self-image as a fat man. Just a weird self-sabotage seems to happen and it happened when I was eating healthy regular meals and it happens now when I am eating very poorly.

I love the numbers and I love having the simple goals and the long range goals, and it's not even about the bad food I eat because after it's over I never feel better about myself.

The worst thing was that 13 years ago I was under 250 lbs and working quite well towards healthy eating and better exercise and even better work and more money. What the hell happened to me then?

Anyway the goal for last week was 308.8 and for this week it's 307.8, so "just" 3 lbs for the week. I am really trying over the next 30 days or so because there is a large family on March 14th. It would be nice to be in better shape and looking fitter before hitting the heartland for some classic fattening Midwestern cuisine. Butter isn't just a topping or an ingredient, it's a main course.

I doubt watching the Winter Olympics will give me any motivation this season so I'll have to figure out a new way to push myself as this dreary weather continues to sap my will to live, much less work out.

The only thing keeping me going is "Mass Effect 2" and trying to get Commander Shepherd through the missions as he and I save the universe. I mean come on, all I have to look forward to is MN in March?, really, are you going to harass me about enjoying a video game now and then? Fine, I'll get back to work.

To remind myself I am looking for 130/85 as a general goal for blood pressure still anything under 180/125 is probably still a good thing.

Had a smallish dinner last night but it did include a cup or so of brown rice which you know sticks to the ribs.

If I want a good Monday weigh in, I'll watch more of what I eat this weekend.

Enjoy the snow!

Year 2 Week 6 Day 1

The mantra is "One Week, One Pound"

Last week was 310.8 and this week is 315.0 that is a GAIN of 4.2 lbs.

Oh how I miss January already. Well, I should blame this on the Superbowl and eating really late on Sunday night, so it will be shown up for sure on Friday's measurements. Still I am going to be working my ass off "for reals yo" this week.

For the record the goal was 309.8 lbs and the goal for next week is 308.8 lbs so that is 6.8 sweating to the oldies pounds to shed this week. Oh how I love my life.

So just obvious bad habits crept back in this week. Ate a lot of pizza, found a new joy in boneless buffalo wings and ate a variety of desserts. The only good thing was that I kept up with all my exercises last week.

So more of the working out and less of the chewing of food. That's okay because I am also finding that I enjoy feeling hungry more than I enjoy being full. Now that sounds very counterintuitive but try this out. Being hungry is a world filled with opportunities and being full is being just being done. If I lived in a subsistence level society I am sure my outlook would be different but I this industrialized world there is no excuse for eating to excess.

Yep, the Superbowl, what to say, what to say another team collecting a Lombardi trophy that the Vikings should have won. I would have won money if I'd laid out some bets, picked the Saints hoping they'd lose, picked Brees for MVP hoping he'd get knocked out, ditto Darren Sharper for MVP since he was a Viking and now he has a ring that he can lord over his former teammates plus it was 30-1. I also had the over, thinking that NO needed to score a lot to keep up with the Colts which didn't work out in the second half so much. My other favorite bet was Kim Kardashian camera shots over/under 2.5 and I was taking the over. Now I am not even sure she was at the game.

So the weekend ends up sucking for me on many levels and now this week is going to be lo cal, high work out, early nights and just plain crappy February-ness. Happy Black History Month!

So there we are with the difference column showing the change since last week.

Like I said, February will be compared to the end of January then March will be compared to the end of February and so on.

Pretty happy with the numbers today. I ate a ton yesterday too so these numbers are really encouraging.

I am going to be doing a bit more exercise this weekend, but a lot more eating too so it should be interesting to see how much I lose/gain after Supberbowl Sunday. When are we making the Monday after a national holiday?

Year 2 Week 5 Day 1

The mantra is "One Week, One Pound"

Last week was 313.0 and this week is 310.8 for a drop of 2.2 lbs.

January started with a 317.0 and that is a 6.2 lbs drop for the month and if I take a look, goals-wise, there were four weeks so four pounds was the minimal acceptable weight loss and I beat that by 2.2 lbs. That's like one whole Kilogram!

So the goal for next week is 309.8 lbs and there is the Super Bowl too. For those uninitiated to this U.S. custom it is the second biggest eating "holiday" behind Thanksgiving. However the food is much worse with its deeply fried, heavily breaded and thickly sauce covered meat and cheese products. Chili-cheese isn't a food, it's just a topping on other foods on this day. So there will be challenges getting into the first week of February.

Four Mondays so four weigh in days in February and a minimal of four pounds again. Short month but at least I have the Winter Olympics for some motivation. Winter Olympics? Anyone? Yeah, I like to pretend to be a competitor too, but the folks in Newnan, GA don't like seeing a guy in cross country skis and a rifle going down GA 34.

Speaking of exercise, still not much in the way of cardio but I am finally adding some crunches to the regimen. I can't deny that even at the low dumbbell weights of 6.6 lbs each and maxing out reps-wise around thirty of each exercise the results are really visible after…how long had it been? Two months? Either way, the nearly regular exercise program has produced some tangible results. Nothing more annoying than finding out that in the very basic sense what they say is right. Keep at it and you will see the results. Damn it! I had hoped that my usual one day of trying and then quitting because I didn't see improvements was the right thing to do!

Some day this week I am getting the DVR through the cable company and also getting the phone through the cable company so I have a weekday at home. That could be fun too, but the challenges of eating when I am home all day are daunting. I've kind of solved this by not having food in the house. Really, I have bananas, skim milk, yogurt, frozen fruit, breakfast mix and V8 juice and that's about it.

But I do have a car and cash so eating out can be a breeze. I can't wait to go to the cupcake place on that day. The bastards are open from 9am to 5pm Monday thru Friday so I can't get a cupcake most work weeks, but now I am already thinking about it. The head is the one part of this changing my lifestyle that is really not getting into the game. I can imagine food being good to eat. I also think about all the places I could eat on almost any given route I drive. Then I think about all the foods I could order at those places and it goes on and on.

Like an alcoholic I think I have hit rock bottom when I go out to lunch and order from Burger King and McDonalds on the same trip and I am trying to hide the BK bag from the McDonalds drive thru lady.

I also still have a capacity issue and I can't stop myself from eating everything I order nor am I very good at not ordering much more than I need to be full. 6 inch subs are filling, but I can fill up and then some on the 12 inch sub and literally it's a half second decision for twice the calories. Those are damn good subs though, well not really but there are Subway shops on every corner and the good Jewish delis are few and far between. Hit me up if you know a good deli in Newnan.

Well, now that I have gotten all up in my head about food I am going to eat my V8 juice for lunch.

Later.
